LIMBO TAKES MANHATTAN (1986)

When the Beyonder cures Magik of her Darkchilde persona, all hell breaks loose in Manhattan! Without Illyana Rasputin's darker persona to keep them in check, demons start spilling out of Limbo and impacting the lives of the New Mutants and Power Pack. Could this be a sign of a greater INFERNO on the horizon?

New Mutants #36

Sunspot quits the New Mutants due to his feelings of helplessness after meeting the godlike Beyonder (during SECRET WARS II). Meanwhile, the Beyonder removes the evil Darkchilde persona from Magik. Her Soulsword and Beatrix Medallion seek out Shadowcat as a new host and she immediately comes under attack from demons attempting an escape from Limbo. Magik becomes entranced by the Beyonder and tries to convince the New Mutants to worship him as their god so they, too, can be healed. A huge demon attacks the Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters while wearing the defeated Shadowcat as his prize. The New Mutants convince Magik to snap out of it to save her best friend. She gives up the Beyonder's gift and allows the Darkchilde persona back, giving her the means to kill the demon and save Shadowcat.

Power Pack #20

Goblins continue to rampage through Manhattan, with their leader deciding to take Manhattan back to Limbo with them and turn the humans to slaves they can use against Limbo's current ruler, Magik. Power Pack listen outside the hospital window and learn their mother is likely to die when the goblins dash passed them, carrying babies they intend sacrificing to initiative their spell. Power Pack rescue the babies and discover Shadowcat's library card among the goblin's stolen items. They call the Xavier School and Cannonball, Wolfsbane and Mirage show up to help. The goblins kidnap Energizer to initiative the spell with her youth and energy powers. Mirage stays at the hospital, using her Valkyrie powers to battle Death herself and save the life of Margaret Power while Power Pack and the other New Mutants rescue Energizer and save Manhattan. The goblins only manage to transport themselves to Limbo and Margaret Power's condition stabilises.

Mirage has a literal showdown with Death who comes to claim her old friend.

Sunspot rejoins the New Mutants after some time away in Brazil.

Margaret Power is finally discharged from hospital.

The demon N'Astirh successfully opens a portal between Earth and Limbo during INFERNO.

Excalibur #7 (1989)

When Magik loses her Darkchilde persona for the final time and reverts to a child, the Soulsword transfers to Shadowcat again during INFERNO.

Excalibur #11 (1989)

The Soulsword embeds itself in the ebony stone outside Excalibur's lighthouse headquarters and not even Phoenix can remove it.

New Mutants #87 (1990)

After the New Mutants save Asgard from Hela's plot to kill Odin, Mirage decides to remain behind to learn how to use her Valkyrie powers during HOME!

Excalibur #37-39 (1991)

Doctor Doom tries to claim the Soulsword from Excalibur.

Excalibur #83-85 (1994-1995)

Margali Szardos claims the Soulsword after Gravemoss to obtain it.

Excalibur #103 (1996)

Following Margali Szardos' defeat at the hands of Excalibur, Belasco takes the Soulsword for himself.

New X-Men #37-40 (2007)

The Soulsword returns to the resurrected Magik when she defeats Belasco.

Secret Invasion: X-Men #1 (2008)

Sunspot does end up joining the X-Men during SECRET INVASION.
