THE INFINITY WATCH READING ORDER: Guardians of Infinity (1992-1995)

Following the events of THE INFINITY GAUNTLET, Adam Warlock has gained the power of all six Infinity Gems. When a gathering of the most powerful cosmic beings in existence decide he's not fit to hold that much power, it's decreed that Warlock must select five trustworthy individuals to act as a guardian for each gem. And the Infinity Watch is born.

Somehow, in his literally infinite wisdom, Warlock selects the deadliest woman in the galaxy, Gamora, to look after the Time Gem. The well-meaning, but utterly inept Drax the Destroyer to hold the Power Gem. The morally ambiguous Moondragon gains the Mind Gem. The drunken Pip the Troll gets the Space Gem. And the owner of the Reality Gem is Warlock's biggest secret, while he retains the Soul Gem for himself.

THE INFINITY GAUNTLET proved to be a huge hit, spawning 'Warlock and the Infinity Watch' as a surprise spin-off series, as well as two sequel events - THE INFINITY WAR and THE INFINITY CRUSADE - which the Infinity Watch also traverse along with the rest of the Marvel Universe. This entry covers every chronological events of the main team as well as their occasional ally Thanos from 1992-1995. I'll run a Warlock-only version at some stage. I've also included some stories of note to pick up before you dig into this classic '90s series - see the 'PRIOR READING' section!

MCG Notes:
  • Issue listings in blue & black: The must-read Infinity Watch stories from this time period, along with any key related stories and often-forgotten tales that are worth a read.
  • Issue listings in grey: Part of the Infinity Watch's chronology, cameo appearances or stories of note that are non-essential or no longer considered 'required reading'.
  • Chronology: Every appearance of the Infinity Watch from this period is included in chronological order, mapping out their timeline rather than just the order the issues were released.
  • Spoilers: The issue/story overviews may include spoilers, so be warned!
  • WANT TO KEEP IT SIMPLE? Scroll down to THE CORE LIST to see a version of this reading order without story descriptions, page-by-page breakdowns or less important appearances - just a list of the essentials.
