ONE NATION UNDER DOOM (1995-1996)

Earth-928, the year 2099. It's not exactly the cheery future we were hoping for, but it's about to get a little darker. Doom has finally reclaimed Latveria and intends putting the world to rights the only way he knows how... by taking over America. While his intentions are mostly good, the corporations who profit from the suffering of the population of the planet don't see it that way.

To keep some of the rogue elements under control, Doom aims to give Spider-Man, Ghost Rider and the Punisher and others key roles in his administration. But not all superhumans are potential allies. The Hulk and Ravage are among those who solely pose a threat to his regime. He may have some powerful friends, but Doom's more powerful enemies may prove enough to topple him.

The world of 2099 goes through some major changes in this major crossover event, though it's arguably the storyline that steered Marvel's 2099 titles towards their end. Doom's actions aren't consistent between his own series and the tie-in issues causing major continuity problems. If you aren't familiar with the characters appearing in these titles, very little is done to help you understand what their history is, the motivations of their foes or - in the case of Ghost Rider and Hulk - what the hell is going on in general. ONE NATION UNDER DOOM was also used to clear some of the less popular characters from the line which led to one of the bleakest endings of the era.

Major Event: With multiple issues into this storyline, One Nation Under Doom is considered a major event. Only want to read the essentials? The key issues are marked with an asterisk *. Read the story in its entirety, if you like. Or just read 'Doom 2099' and add the issues featuring the characters who interest you the most.
Despite 2099 Unlimited #9 being marked as a 'One Nation Under Doom' tie-in, none of the stories featured in that issue make any reference to the saga, so I haven't included it here.
