FANTASTIC FOUR READING ORDER: Revolution (1984-1986)

In the second of two reading orders, John Byrne's reinvigoration and modernisation the Fantastic Four for the '80s concludes as he replaces the Thing in the line-up, leaving him moping on Battleworld while She-Hulk brings pure joy to the team! Doctor Doom's plan to immortalise himself completely backfires and sets him on a new course for years to come. The Human Torch does some serious growing up. Mister Fantastic is reunited with his father. And the Invisible Girl goes through some genuinely harrowing experiences to become one of the most interesting and powerful characters in the Marvel Universe

This run was all about moving these characters forward with Byrne handled deftly before his struggles to appease editorial become too much and he left Marvel to head up the relaunching of the Superman books for DC Comics.

I've also included the Thing's solo adventures here, having left the team at the end of the original SECRET WARS. And Franklin Richards becomes a member of Power Pack, so his appearances are also included here. He may not be a member of the Fantastic Four but, as the son of Reed & Sue Richards, it's important to know what he's up to! Both characters' appearances are largely included in grey (optional reading) unless the FF appear alongside them.

MCG Notes:
  • Issue listings in blue & black: The must-read Fantastic Four stories from this time period, along with any key related stories and often-forgotten tales that are worth a read.
  • Issue listings in grey: Part of the FF's chronology, cameo appearances or stories of note that non-essential or no longer considered 'required reading'
  • Non-Members: Franklin Richards' adventures with Power Pack and the Thing's solo adventures are also included in grey unless they directly impact the Fantastic Four.
  • Chronology: Every appearance of the FF from this period is included in chronological order - mapping out the timeline rather than just the order the issues were released.
  • Spoilers: The issue/story overviews may include spoilers, so be warned!
