ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN READING ORDER: Miles Morales (2011-2015)

When Marvel launched their line of Ultimate Comics featuring a new, fresher take on the Marvel Universe with new continuity and updated takes on characters, it was a roaring success. Ultimate Spider-Man was consistently one of Marvel's best-selling titles. So it came as a surprise when they decided to kill off the Ultimate version of Peter Parker and replace him with Miles Morales - a brand-new character with no Earth-616 counterpart.

Since then, a version of Miles has appeared in the film 'Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse', building on the popularity he's earned for himself in the comics over the years. In fact, when Marvel decided to wipe out the Ultimate Universe, Miles Morales was popular enough to survive the cull and make his way into mainstream continuity! Below is the chronological list of his appearances, leading up to the end of the Ultimate Universe (Earth-1610).

As always, I'd like to thank the guys over at the Marvel Chronology Project which I use as a basis and work out my own reading order. It's worth noting that when I list a character's first appearance, I'm referring to the first appearance of the Earth-1610 or 'Ultimate' version of that character unless otherwise stated.

MCG Notes:
  • Issue listings in blue & black: The must-read Ultimate Spider-Man stories from this time period, along with any key related stories and often-forgotten tales that are worth a read.
  • Issue listings in grey: Part of Miles Morales' chronology, cameo appearances or stories of note that non-essential or no longer considered 'required reading'.
  • Chronology: Every appearance of the second Spider-Man of Earth-1610 from this period is included in chronological order - mapping out his timeline rather than just the order the issues were released.
  • Spoilers: The issue/story overviews may include spoilers, so be warned!
  • WANT TO KEEP IT SIMPLE? Scroll down to THE CORE LIST to see a version of this reading order without story descriptions, page-by-page breakdowns or less important appearances - just a list of the essentials.
