UNDERGROUND MUTANT THEATRE (1985)

From out of nowhere, two members of the New Mutants are kidnapped and find themselves fighting in the Underground Mutant Theatre - a gladiatorial arena where mutants fight to the death to entertain some of the richest people in Hollywood. But the image of the theatre's owner, Alexander Flynn, is a ruse. Someone far more familiar to the New Mutants controls the arena, now. But isn't she supposed to be dead..?

New Mutants #29
When Sunspot and Magma are kidnapped, Cannonball and Magik turn to teleporting rockstar mutant Lila Cheney for help. They discover their teammates have been dragged into the Underground Mutant Theatre where they'll fight as members of the Gladiators in an arena in the name of entertainment. What they don't know is that the man behind it all, Alexander Flynn, has drugged them and it threatening to kill kidnapped children if they refuse to fight. Lila's new session singer, Dazzler, helps Cannonball, Magik and Lila infiltrate the Theatre. But their rescue attempt is interrupted when Magneto arrives having received a message from Professor X that the Beyonder has arrived on planet Earth. Despite the threat, Sunspot and Magma refuse to help...

Secret Wars II #1
Having alerted Magneto, the mutant master of magnetism recruits Cannonball, Magik, Dazzler, Lila Cheney and the X-Men who all head to Hollywood to confront the Beyonder. Instead, they face a scriptwriter who's been transformed by the Beyonder into the super-powered Thundersword! Rachel Summers locates the Beyonder (who has modelled himself on the Molecule Man). He grabs Magik and forces her transformation into the Darkchilde. She teleports herself, Shadowcat, Rachel, Dazzler and the New Mutants to Limbo in shame, having hidden this form from them all until now. Wolverine slices the Beyonder with his claws, making the panicked Lila Cheney teleport them to away to avoid his wrath. Iron Man and Captain America remove the source of Thundersword's powers and the Beyonder vanishes...
New Mutants #30
In Limbo, Shadowcat takes the Soulsword from Magik and uses it to turn her back to human form. The group return to their mission in Hollywood, unaware they the Beyonder is watching them. Dazzler infiltrates the Gladiators, pretending to return as one of them but the appeal of the arena is too strong and she soon inspires real violence in the competitors. Shadowcat passes herself off as a technician to get a job in the arena, but is quickly discovered by the true mastermind. Magik discovers the Beyonder's presence and Rachel Summers psychically confronts him, almost killing her until Cannonball drags her to safety. Sunspot and Magma return to the arena where they face a monstrous creature...
 
New Mutants #31
Magma and Sunspot fight the creature until Shadowcat breaks free from inside its robotic shell. The drugged Dazzler fights alongside the Gladiators against the New Mutants until Shadowcat attacks the obese boss who was pretending to be Alexander Flynn. The New Mutants purse their psychic foe who turns out to be Karma - the former New Mutant the rest of the team believed was dead, now in an obese form - and allow her escape when she threatens to kill her followers. Sunspot believes Professor X lied about Karma's death and promise to go after her and bring her home...

The New Mutants pursue Karma across the planet and learn she's been possessed by the Shadow King who has allowed her body to become obese; they successfully free her from the Shadow King's control with help from Storm.

New Mutants Special Edition #1 (1985) 
Karma loses the weight she gained while under the Shadow King's control when she's stranded in a desert when the New Mutants and Storm are transported to Asgard by Loki during ASGARDIAN WARS.

Iron Man #200 (1985)
Tony Stark completes his Silver Centurion armour and reclaims the role of Iron Man from James Rhodes.

Uncanny X-Men #200 (1985)

When Professor X is taken into space by Lilandra Neramani to heal from his recent wounds, he leaves the X-Men and New Mutants in the stewardship of Magneto during THE TRIAL OF MAGNETO.

New Mutants #36-37 (1986)
The Beyonder tries to show the New Mutants - particularly Magik - their true potential, only for them to treat him like an enemy; the Beyonder kills the New Mutants during SECRET WARS II.

Uncanny X-Men #203 (1986)
After gaining the power and name of the Phoenix, Rachel Summers tries to murder the Beyonder during SECRET WARS II.

Secret Wars #9 (1985)
Phoenix summons the heroes to the Beyonder's hone in the hopes of defeating him; the Beyonder resurrects the New Mutants and uses them as mindless pawns against the heroes of Earth; the Molecule Man ends the threat of the Beyonder during SECRET WARS II.

New Mutants #38-40 (1986)
Magneto turns to Emma Frost to restore the New Mutants' minds.

Uncanny X-Men #214 (1987)
Dazzler joins the X-Men during MUTANT MASSACRE.

Marvel Age Annual #4 (1988)
General Nguyen Ngoc Coy is revealed to have escaped a prison sentence and fled to Madripoor.

Uncanny X-Men #253-255 (1989)
The Shadow King returns, infecting the minds of the inhabitants of Muir Island during DISSOLUTION & REBIRTH.

Uncanny X-Men #259-260 (1990)

Lila Cheney's bodyguard Guido returns, helping Dazzler when she emerges from the Siege Perilous during SCARY MONSTERS.

Uncanny X-Men #273-274 (1991)
Guido first meets the X-Men.


Uncanny X-Men #278-280 (1991)
Guido somehow ends up on Muir Island, under the control of the Shadow King; Professor X returns to Earth and defeats the Shadow King in a battle which costs him the use of his legs during THE MUIR ISLAND SAGA.

X-Factor #70 (1991)
Guido befriends a number of mutants in the aftermath of the Shadow King's attack on Muir Island during THE MUIR ISLAND SAGA.

X-Factor #71-75 (1991-1992)
Guido (who's full name is revealed to be Guido Carosella) joins the government sanctioned mutant team X-Factor, taking the codename Strong Guy during MUTANT GENESIS.

X-Treme X-Men #36-39 (2004)
Storm discovers another underground mutant fighting pit dubbed the Arena, which turns out to be a chain of Arenas across the globe.


Captain Marvel #8-10 (2016-2017)
Stewart Cadwall is revealed to have left prison, started a family and lived a peaceful life until he's arrested by Captain Marvel and Alpha Flight for keeping the trophy that turned him into Thundersword; the Master of the World steals the trophy and powers himself up with it, but Cadwall removes the sword's power and proves his good intentions during CIVIL WAR II.
