FALLEN FROM GRACE (1996)

It had to happen: Cable (Nathan Summers, the son of Cyclops and Madelyne Pryor (Jean Grey's clone)) has his first clash with the X-Man (Nate Grey, the cloned offspring of Cyclops and Jean Grey of Earth-295) - the sons of the Summers clan, by default. Alternate versions of each other. This probably would've been a head-scratcher for anyone picking up a comic for the first time in the mid-90s!

Nate Grey recently beat Professor X (Charles Xavier of the X-Men) in a psychic battle and made it clear that he's a potential threat. Cable may be the person best-suited to taking the refugee from THE AGE OF APOCALYPSE off the board. But it looks like the mutant Exodus also wants Nate so he can feed off his tasty, telekilicious powers!

At the same time, Domino leads X-Force on her own, only to run into some old enemies who've had their powers super-charged by the mysterious threat called Onslaught. The team could really do with Cable's help, right about now. ONSLAUGHT is coming...

Cable #29
Cable and Blaquesmith meet with Professor X and the X-Men to decide what to do about Nate Grey. The phenomenally powerful teenage mutant of unknown origin (he actually jumped realities from the THE AGE OF APOCALYPSE) is wandering the Earth and unleashing his powers on those around him liking a moody teenager. What if he completely loses control? What if he falls in with the wrong crowd? Typical parent stuff. Mid-meeting, Blaquesmith mindwipes everyone except Cable, convincing him that he needs to kill Nate as the others won't morally be up to the task.

X-Man #13
In Paris, Nate Grey helps Threnody escape the Marauders when she decides to leave Mister Sinister's service. Cable finds the bodies of the slaughtered Marauders in the sewer...
X-Force #52 (tie-in)
Meanwhile, the female members of X-Force investigate the once-secret Sentinel plant at Camp Hayden. The Blob emerges having had his powers enhanced by the mysterious villain Onslaught. Meltdown's new ruthless attitude (following IN THE RED ZONE) help bring about the Bob's defeat. He's rescued by an equally-enhanced Mimic. Back in New York, Sunspot and Caliban go to Gideon's home to confront him, but his dead body lands on the street in front of them the moment they arrive.

Cable #30[1/2]
Nate Grey and Threnody find shelter in the Swiss Alps in one of Cable's safehouses, of all places. Cable and Blaquesmith track them there and try to reason with Nate, but his trust issues get in the way and his out-of-control powers destroy the safehouse. Just as Nate starts to pick himself up, Exodus arrives looking to feed on his powers...

X-Force #53 (tie-in)
Gideon was a member of the immortal Externals and shouldn't have been able to die.Two more Externals - Crule and Absolom - attack Sunspot and Caliban, believing them to be behind Gideon's death. The rest of X-Force arrive to help them out and find Saul, another X-Ternal, dead at the scene. Warpath tracks the real killer, but she knocks him out before he discovers her identity...

X-Man #14
Cable pulls himself from the wreckage to find Nate Grey and Exodus battling it out. Nate ultimately defeats Exodus. He opens a chasm in the Earth, throws him in and closes it. Now Cable's left wondering what hope he has of defeating Nate Grey...
Cable #31[1/2]
Nate lets the fury of his powers fly at Blaquesmith and Cable. The attack is so intense, other psi-powered mutants across the planet feel it. Cable manages to reason with Nate and promises to help him control his powers in the future, but his body - ravaged by the Techno-Organic Virus - fails him. Blaquesmith takes Cable back to the ship to nurse him, but he soon wakes up when he senses X-Force in trouble. Elsewhere, a telepathic call goes out to a new mutant called Post to take out Cable...

X-Force #54 (tie-in)
Selene, the former Black Queen of the Hellfire Club, was behind the slaughter of the Externals. Cable arrives in time to join the fight against her, but he's taken away again by Blaquesmith to recover from his injuries. Having fed from the energies of the now-deceased immortals, Selene has all the power she needs and makes her exit. The police take X-Force in for questioning over Gideon's murder as he was a prominent businessman. Detective Charlotte Jones (Archangel's ex-girlfriend) releases them when Meltdown reveals Selene as the killer. Jones is then approached by another shady figure who is unimpressed with her for letting X-Force go and claims he has 'zero tolerance' mutants...
