THE RETURN OF KAINE (1996)

Since Ben Reilly arrived in New York City, he's been stalked by the deadly Kaine, a twisted clone of Peter Parker. Peter no longer wears the webs, but will Kaine respect the revelation that Ben is now the one, true Spider-Man

Spectacular Spider-Man #231
Sinister entrepreneur James Johnsmeyer funds Kaine's healing process (begun by the Jackal during MAXIMUM CLONAGE) in the hope of manipulating him into taking part in the Great Game. Kaine rejects Johnsmeyer, fends off his super-powered players and rescues Muse as he departs. Years ago, Spider-Man disposed of his clone's body in a smokestack, not realising he was still alive and escaped incineration before taking on the name Ben Reilly. Now, as the stack is about to be demolished, workers discover a skeleton in a tattered Spider-Man costume...

Sensational Spider-Man #2
After hearing about the discovery of the skeleton, a frantic Ben Reilly dons his Spider-Man suit and steals it from the morgue, only to be spotted by J Jonah Jameson. Johnsmeyer sends the Rhino to force Kaine and Muse into the Great Game. Spider-Man sees the battle as he carries the skeleton through the city, allowing Kaine to escape. Ben returns to his apartment and barely hides the bones before Jessica Caradine enters...
Amazing Spider-Man #409
Johnsmeyer instigates the next challenge in the great game as the players send their super-powered pawns to kill Kaine. Whoever succeeds wins! Kaine defeats the Rhino and escapes, leaving Spider-Man to handle Polestar and Joystick. The villains are all defeated, but Kaine escapes again. Carolyn Trainer (the new Doctor Octopus) visits her father Seward Trainer in hospital, believing he's about to die. Or he will if she can help it...

Spider-Man #66
Kaine heads to the Johnscorp building and starts razing the whole complex to the ground in an effort to end the Great Game. Spider-Man tries to intervene, only for Muse to force Spider-Man to rescue her from a potentially deadly fall in order to buy Kaine time ruin Johnsmeyer's facility, threaten to kill everyone involved in the Great Game and make his escape. Back at the Daily Bugle, Peter Parker shows up ready for work...
Spectacular Spider-Man #232 (1996) 
Seward Trainer comes out of his coma; Peter, Mary-Jane and Ben catch up to decide what to do with the skeleton.

Spider-Man: Redemption #1-4 (1996) 
Kaine redeems himself by making peace with Ben Reilly (even calling him 'brother) and handing himself over to the police.

Spider-Man Unlimited #14 (1996) 
The Great Game ends with with the deaths of Polestar, Nightwatch and El Toro Negro.

Peter Parker: Spider-Man #75 (1996)
Ben Reilly is revealed to be the clone when he's murdered by Norman Osborn; Peter Parker becomes Spider-Man again during REVELATIONS.

Thunderbolts '97 Annual (1997) 
In a flashback (taking place not long after his arrest), Kaine is seen escaping the Vault during JUSTICE LIKE LIGHTNING.

Amazing Spider-Man #435 (1998) 
Kaine travels to Europe in an attempt to thwart Norman Osborn's plans to ruin Peter Parker's life during IDENTITY CRISIS.

New Thunderbolts #2 (2005)
The Thunderbolts put an end to an attempt to restart the Great Game.

Civil War: Battle Damage Report #1 (2007) 
Kaine is considered an 'enemy combatant' by Iron Man during CIVIL WAR.
 
Web of Spider-Man #1 (2009) 
Scientists watch the clone degeneration destroy Kaine until he breaks free from the Bunker where he's being held prisoner during WHO WAS BEN REILLY?

Amazing Spider-Man #634-635 (2010) 
Kaine receives a brutal beating from Ana & Alyosha Kravinoff merely for being associated with Spider-Man; Spider-Man Man helps Kaine recover; Kaine (disguised as Peter Parker) is killed during the resurrection of Kraven the Hunter during the GRIM HUNT.
 
Amazing Spider-Man #637 (2010) 
The Jackal resurrects Kaine in a mutated form as the new Tarantula during the GRIM HUNT.

Amazing Spider-Man #666 (2011) 
Kaine fully mutates into his Tarantula form, acting as an agent of the Jackal during SPIDER-ISLAND.

Amazing Spider-Man #671-673 (2011) 
Kaine is healed, switches sides and helps Peter Parker; Peter gives Kaine his stealth suit to help him defeat the Jackal and the Queen; Madame Web advises Kaine to leave New York with the stealth suit during SPIDER-ISLAND.

Scarlet Spider #1-2 (2012) 
Kaine relocates to Houston and adopts the Scarlet Spider identity during LIFE AFTER DEATH.

Scarlet Spider #21 (2013) 
Kraven the Hunter attacks Kaine disguised in Ben Reilly's original Scarlet Spider costume.
