THE SIX (1998)

Havok has gone from being the leader of X-Factor to the head of the Brotherhood. His attempt to infiltrate the terrorist mutant group and use their resources for good backfired. In an effort to put things right, Havok has returned to what's left of X-Factor, including three time-lost members of the XSE from an alternate future - Earth-1191, the same future as Bishop. - to prevent the oppression of mutants before it could begin.

The intention of this story by series writer Howard Mackie was to shake up the 'X-Factor' title, with Havok's new status quo beginning in issue 150. Instead, Marvel marked the stark change with a new ongoing title, 'Mutant X' which introduced the another dysopia to the Marvel multiverse. One in which the Six are the primary mutant team and everything's familiar but far from the same. Will Havok ever get to return home?
Events that directly impact this story:
  • MUTANT GENESIS - Havok joins X-Factor; Bishop arrives in the present
Series Launch: 'X-Factor' is cancelled and relaunched as 'Mutant X' as Havok's story continues.
  • X-Factor #149
  • Mutant X #1

X-Factor #149
Xavier Security Enforcer agents Archer, Fixx and Greystone have so far failed to alter the timeline to prevent their future and have instead joined the mutant team X-Factor. But Greystone's journey through time has inflicted him with temporal insanity. After Havok makes peace with Cyclops and Polaris, he discovers Greystone - inflicted with temporal insanity - has built a time machine to take him back home. But the machine is little more than a bomb! When Havok attempts to defuse it, the device explodes. Fixx can't find a telepathic trace of either and announces Greystone and Havok are dead. X-Factor disband.
Mutant X #1
Havok finds himself very much alive and inhabiting the body of an alternate reality version of himself on Earth-1298. This world's Havok leads a team of dark but familiar mutants called The Six made up of Bloodstorm (a vampiric Ororo Monroe), Brute (a massively mutated Hank McCoy), the Fallen (a bat-winged Warren Worthington III), Ice-Man (a slightly spikier Bobby Drake) and Marvel Woman (Madelyne Pryor, the clone of Jean Grey who's also Havok's wife). Maddie and Havok also have a son, Scotty Summers, who is looked after by their live-in nanny, Elektra Natchios. When this reality's Havok sacrificed himself to save his wife during a battle with Nick Fury's terrorist SHIELD organisation, the Six believed their leader was dead. Instead, Earth-616's Alex Summers has landed in his body and lives on, though he decides not to tell his apparent team mates or his creepy wife the truth until he decides what to do next. But he's running out of time. Scotty knows his dad isn't who he says he is...
