Having learned he is only a copy of the real Peter Parker, Spider-Man's clone flips, lashing out at an innocent truck driver. Driven by Peter Parker's tenacity, he realises he can't give up and heads back to Peter's apartment, taking some clothes and heading off on his own path...

Instead, he goes for a drink with one of his fellow passengers and convinces him of his own worthlessness, before taking his pent up rage out on a barman. Later, he interrupts the passenger's suicide attempt,realising how wrong he was. The next day, he hops aboard another coach and takes the name Ben Reilly (Peter's uncle's first name, Aunt May's maiden name), deciding to create a life for himself....
