HOME! (1989-1990)

After lengthy adventures off-world, X-Factor and the New Mutants return home and are reunited. But Archangel's psychotic urges and the arrival of the mysterious mutant called Cable might tear them apart again...

The New Mutants barely survived their unscheduled trip to Asgard, having helped the stop Hela from using the Valkyries to take over the Realm Eternal. Long-standing team member Mirage (Dani Moonstar) decides to stay behind and explore her new role as a Valkyrie. With no Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters to return to, the team latch on to a complete stranger - the militant mutant Cable - over their X-Factor allies.

Rusty Collins and Skids Blevins were left behind when the other New Mutants were taken to Asgard. Since then, they've been captured by Freedom Force (during ACTS OF VENGEANCE), accidentally escaped prison, defeated the Vulture and Nitro and been captured all over again. Lucky for them, the Mutant Liberation Front are here to give them a break.

Tying it all together is the return of Sabretooth. The member of the murderous Marauders is back ad looking to kill more Morlocks for fun. Caliban may have shifted his loyalties from X-Factor to Apocalypse in return for being upgraded to his new Death horseman, but his thirst for Sabretooth's blood will override that loyalty. Vengeance for his fellow Morlocks will override everything, even when he comes into contact with the previous Death, aka Archangel. X-Factor's trip to space is going to look like a relaxing holiday compared to this...

Ghaur and Llyra use the Horn to unleash a giant creature on Atlantis while their troops are busy attacking the surface world, betraying Attuma in the process. The Horn

Elsewhere in the tunnels, Sabretooth is still killing Morlocks, unaware that Caliban is close to tracking him down. Rictor fails to recognise the new-look Caliban and gets sliced across the stomach by Sabretooth...

New Mutants #91
As Rictor bleeds out, he tries to help Caliban but just gets slapped by Sabretooth. Cable and the New Mutants run into Masque before they take down Caliban while Sabretooth runs off with Rictor.
