When the other guests leave, Doom implies to Spector that he knows his secret identity and demands the return of certain artefacts that were recently discovered in a section of land in Latveria obtained by SpectorCorp. Spector refuses, enraging Doom...
Marc Spector: Moon Knight #40
The Sensor Squad break into SpectorCorp headquarters, confirming Marc Spector's theory that they are actually agents of Doctor Doom who after after the artefacts. After the Squad are aggressively dispatched by Moon Knight, the hero takes a cyborg eye to Mister Fantastic of the Fantastic Four and, using his Avengers ID, convinces him to utilise the eye to help Moon Knight break into the Latverian Embassy. Despite the risk of causing an international incident, Moon Knight enters the Embassy and confronts Doctor Doom, realising the item he's after belonged to his mother. After a confrontation, Moon Knight relents and returns the locket containing a photo of Doom's father. Later, Marc Spector removes his armour, revealing to Jean-Paul 'Frenchie' DuChamp that his body has begun to deteriorate and mutate to a worrying degree...

Spider-Man finds himself caught between the Hobgoblin and Demogoblin as they each try to become the one, 'true' Goblin by bumping the other off. A Spider-Man Doppelgänger attempts to assimilate Spidey, but the Hobgoblin blasts the Doppelgänger onto a railing, killing him. Spider-Man heads to Four Freedoms Plaza to find out what's going on, leaving the impaled four-armed corpse to be stolen by the Demogoblin...

The Demogoblin puts the Spider-Man Doppelgänger in cold storage while he goes looking for a way to revive it. Code: Blue are alerted to the Demogoblin's whereabouts and apprehend him, sending him to the Tombs Prison...
Before Moon Knight can reach the Mister Fantastic Doppelgänger to find out why he's set the heroes against each other, Psylocke stabs him in the mind with her psychic knife and learns Moon Knight is dying. Having survived the gamma bomb explosion (see THE INFINITY WAR), more Doppelgängers arrives and assault Four Freedoms Plaza. The Moon Knight Doppelgänger and Franklin Richards Doppelgänger use a Psi-phon to drain some of the real Franklin Richards' dream energy to gain enough power to free themselves from the Magus' control. Free of the demon he's been sharing his body with (since THE FALL OF THE KINGPIN), Jason Macendale hones his skills as a killer to earn the right to wear the Hobgoblin costume once again. But he's in debt with the Foreigner for having Ned Leeds killed and obtaining the identity years earlier (during THE HOBGOBLIN REVEALED) and has to kill Moon Knight and Daily Bugle photographer Nick Katzenberg to pay off his debt. The Foreigner alerts Spider-Man to make things more interesting and the web-slinger soon comes to Moon Knight's aid when his journey to Four Freedom's Plaza is interrupted. When Hobgoblin believes he's killed Moon Knight, he moves on to his next target. Meanwhile, the incarcerated Demogoblin mentally resurrects the Spider-Man Doppelganger and calls on him for help...

Elsewhere, the vampiric Hag and Troll accidentally help Venom escape from his prison transport on the way to the Vault. And the Doppelganger breaks Demogoblin out of jail...

Moon Knight breaks into Brinkstone Prison to get to the Demogoblin on the same night that serial killer John DeZoan is due to be electrocuted. Somehow, Mister Fantastic's technological upgrades to staff assist his break-in, but mess with the execution. There's a power cut and DeZoan ends up with electrical powers and starts killing his way through the prison. Moon Knight locates the Demogoblin, but contact with him makes him hallucinate. Moon Knight's not even sure what's real anymore when Demogoblin takes a bite out of him...

Moon Knight allows his demoic infection to take over to defeat Demogoblin and realises the creature's plan was to escape prison using Marc Spector's body as a host. Moon Knight's running out of time as his journey to the exit is blocked by rioting prisoners and the murderous John DeZoan. DeZoan escapes and Moon Knight stops the riot, only to collapse when his timer runs out. Luckily, Frenchie comes to the rescue and takes Moon Knight to Doctor Strange's home where he and Mister Fantastic remove the Demo-Virus and cast it into a lost dimension. Moon Knight is saved, but he needs to continue to wear his armour for 48 hours. And he's unaware that another little demon has hitched a ride to his home...
